High School Students

Our Newport News Shipbuilding division is currently offering hiring incentives for high school students graduating this June interested in trade careers with NNS. Students can be age 17 now when applying, but must be age 18 before starting work with NNS.
– $1,000 sign-on bonus
– $1,500 for relocation

College Students - Summer Internships

HII offers summer internship opportunities with the HII Corporate office and the Ingalls Shipbuilding and Newport News Shipbuilding divisions. These are paid summer internships with students working full-time (40 hours a week) for 10 consecutive weeks. Many of our summer interns transition into Co-ops or accept full-time offers starting after they graduate.

Student Requirements: 

  • Must be age 18 or older
  • Must be U.S. citizens
  • Must be enrolled in a bachelor or master degreed program
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA (cumulative)
  • Successfully complete a background investigation, drug screen and physical

Preferred majors include: Business, Engineering, Information Technology

College Students - Co-op Opportunities

Earn while you learn! 

Our Newport News Shipbuilding division offers several paid part-time Co-op opportunities in Business Management, Design, Engineering, Information Technology and Supply Chain Management. When doing your job search, look for “Co-op” opportunities as they are posted throughout the year.

Student Requirements: 

  • Must be age 18 or older
  • Must be U.S. citizens
  • Must be enrolled in a bachelor or master degreed program
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA (cumulative)
  • Successfully complete a background investigation, drug screen and physical
  • Must be able to work up to 20 hours a week while still attending school full-time
  • Must be able to work full-time (40 hours a week) if participating in a sequential (semester) Co-op
