Diversity & Inclusion

Diversity & Inclusion is vital to HII’s ability to grow the business and innovate in an ever- changing, fast-paced environment. Our diverse and inclusive workplace encourages different perspectives and ideas, which we believe enables better business decisions. Following are some highlights of HII’s D&I program:

  • Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are a key component of HII’s corporate culture and an important part of our diversity and inclusion strategy. We currently sponsor fifteen ERG’s, which are employee-led and open to all employees, including: African American Shipbuilders Association (AASA), Asian & Pacific Islander Shipbuilding Association (APSA), Generational Integration Focus Team (GIFT), Hispanic Outreach & Leadership Alliance (HOLA), Women in Shipbuilding Enterprise (WiSE), Ingalls Shipbuilders Equality Alliance (ISEA), Shipbuilders Together Realizing Inclusion, Diversity and Equality (STRIDE), and the Veterans Employee Resource Group (VERG).
  • We have established D&I Councils at our Corporate Office and at each of our three divisions that provide strategic direction, guidance and advocacy for HII’s diversity and inclusion initiatives and advancements. These councils are led by Senior Executives and includes high-performing employees and leaders from across our enterprise.
  • HII has a long history of participation in a number of annual national diversity conferences including Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA), Society of Hispanic Engineers and Professionals (SHPE), Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE), Society of Women Engineers (SWE), Women of Color STEM Conference (WOC), and the National Society of Black Engineers Convention (NSBE).  These events provide recruitment, recognition and development opportunities for our diverse workforce.
  • HII is proud of its long heritage of hiring Veterans. Veterans make outstanding employees who fit our culture from their first day of employment.  They understand that the work we do serves our nation and our motto, “Hard Stuff Done Right” takes dedication, teamwork, and perseverance.  HII has received numerous awards over the years for our efforts to hire Veterans.
